THE POWER OF SMALL WINS

It’s easy to move through the day focusing on what’s not working.
What didn’t get done.
What didn’t go as planned.
What still needs attention.
We’re wired that way—our brains are designed to look for problems.
And if I’m being honest, this is something I still have to work on. I can be pretty hard on myself.
In a recent workshop, we talked about something simple that can help shift this pattern:
Noticing small wins.
These aren’t big milestones or major accomplishments.
They’re the small moments that often go overlooked:
handling a stressful situation a little better than you have before
taking a pause before reacting
following through on something you said you would do
even just getting through a challenging day
When we begin to notice these moments, we reinforce them.
And over time, those small shifts add up.
Not all at once. Not perfectly.
But gradually.
What I’ve started doing
As part of my nightly reflection, I’ve been making a point to call out one small win from the day.
Sometimes I’ll write it in my gratitude journal.
Sometimes I’ll just take a moment to acknowledge it.
It’s a simple shift—but it changes how I end the day.
Instead of focusing on what I didn’t do, I’m reminding myself of something I did.
And it’s a really good way to feel a little more grounded—and even a little better—before going to sleep.
A simple place to start
At the end of the day, ask yourself:
👉 What’s one small win from today?
That’s it.
No long reflection. No pressure.
Just one moment worth acknowledging.

Small wins may not seem like much in the moment—but over time, they can change how we think, how we respond, and how we show up.
